Soundtrack

I feel like all my posts have somewhat surrounded the fact that it is now summertime. Well so be it. I am happy it is summertime and that is why I continue to focus on the topic. Anyway this blog post is going to be about my soundtrack for the summer. That soundtrack is going to include a lot of The Avett Brothers. For those of you who have not heard the Avett Brothers let me be the first to introduce you to this fantastic group. The group is made up of two brothers, Seth and Scott Avett, a stand up bass player, Bob Crawford, and a talented cello player, Joe Kwon. The group is based mainly in bluegrass but they bring a happy go lucky punk style of playing to the bluegrass genre. I know it sounds epic, and let me inform you that it is. I first heard of these guys late last semester and I had only heard a few of their songs. I enjoyed them but it was moot. Later during this past semester I went and saw them play during record store day. The show took place in the parking lot behind Grimey's Record Store in Nashville, Tennessee. I got there kind of early so I was rather close to the front and before I knew it about three hundred or more people were standing behind me. I knew that this group had something special after I saw that crowd. Then the moment of truth came and they arrived. They made there way to the front of the crowd and put on an outstanding show. There presence brought an air of joy and fun. By the time the exhausting show was over I was elated and now a true fan of these bluegrass fellers from North Carolina. It was also cool because as the whole group walked past me to go inside the store they all gave me bro hugs, it was awesome. So now as I look back and look ahead at the summer their songs constantly go through my head and I hope they might for you too. If it is the first time you are hearing of these guys I hope I have opened a wonderful door for you. Enjoy!

Summertime

Yes it is finally here, well sort of. Summertime! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and I am sitting in my basement on the computer. Yes I guess it is officially here. This is the time of the year that I look forward to the most (except for Christmas), and it is here. I look forward to it because it is the time of the year when I get a break, and that is much appreciated. It is also the time of the year when I get to see all of my friends whom are now all at different colleges. This is the time of the year when we all come home and everything feels the same again, at least for a little while. This year though is different. Very different. It turns out that the majority of my friends will not be coming home this summer. Unfortunately I found this out after I made it home, not that it would have made any difference. I am utterly disappointed that I am not going to be able to spend so much time with many of my friends whom I love very much. This predicament got me thinking. Why are we trying to grow up too fast? In my humble opinion growing up is not really something we should look forward to and we should all try and take advantage of the time that we have to be young and some what free. Before we know it we are going to be official adults with kids and serious responsibilities. That is something that we can look forward to, but we shouldn't bypass our "carefree" (yeah right) college years to get there. This is our time to have summer jobs and spend time together. I don't know about everyone else, but I know I wasn't ready for last summer to be my last summer spending time with everyone, and it looks like it was. I am not trying to harp on the people who decided to stay in there current place of residence in order to maybe gain a few extra credits to lighten the yearly load. Believe me I am an advocate of summer classes I am taking 15 hours this summer, but I was just hoping that this summer would be at least similar to past summers in the sense that I would be able to have fun with all my friends, or at least most of them. Growing up sucks!

The Friday before I get to go home

Hey how is everyone on this glorious of glory days? I am doing quite well and am happy to say that I am almost all packed up. Awesome.
Some of you who are reading this may or may not have noticed the picture at the bottom of the page. Well let me tell you about that picture. That is a painting done by a very talented young artist named Brandon Bird. He does various types of pop art from his celebrity paintings that portray celebrities in unlikely situations to his entire series of works based on the likeness of Edward Norton. I like his work because it's funny and really good. So I recommend you check it out. Just click the picture and it will take you to his site.
I will leave you with this link to the feel good movie of the summer, Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus . Enjoy!

It Begins.

Well I seceded from my former stance on blogs and decided that I would rather like to write my own blog so here it goes.
I guess the first order of business is why I wanted to start writing this blog. Well it began when I was reading the blog by John Henschen called JohnnyNewKnoxville. As I was reading it I thought to myself, "why don't I start writing a blog." That's how it all got started. Exciting right? I know you can hardly contain your elation! I can almost feel it through the keyboard, but I hate to burst your bubble because this blog is not going to be very special... it's going to be very very special (see what I did there). But really those of you who know me know what I am all about and how my brain works, sort of. For those of you who do not know me let me give you a little insight.
My name is Dillon Bock. In public I am a pretty calm person and I rarely let people see me get seriously angry. In private I am very similar. The only time you would ever see me act differently than I do in public or in private would be if you were inside my head. As I and all of the people (person probably) reading this know you cannot be inside someone' s head. In some aspects I do not like that. That is why I decided that this blog is going to be a little biweekly, daily, or whatever, visit to inside my brain. Brace yourselves it is somewhat of a whirlwind. So for my fisrt blog I am going to tell you what I am thinking about as I am writing this blog so that you may get an idea of what you are in for.
The date is May 14, 2009. Just as I typed that I remembered my sisters birthday is tomorrow and I will call her tomorrow. Also as I write this blog I picture my inner monologue sounding like Robert Downey Jr  in one of his more recent movies, all of which I have enjoyed very much. Good for him for cleaning his life up. Since I am on the topic of my blog I am also thinking about the process of setting this blog up. I originally clicked the link on John Henschen's blog to create my own blog (by the way johnnynewknoxville check it out!). One of the first things it tells you to do is come up with a name. For those of you who have had to name something you all realize that it isn't as easy as most of us assume. So I sat there and I tried to think of a name. I came up with Tasting Colors: The Dillon Bock Blog, you from the Sister hazel song "Mandolin Moon" That didn't work out because some one else had that name. I guess there are other hazers out there who also blog, who knew? Any who, I then chose Dillon Bock: the Blog, so for those of you who do not like the name, I'm sorry like I said it's not that easy.
Anyway I'm going to end my first entry there because I don't know where I am going from there. So there was a little taste, and I hope you come back for more. Thanks. See ya.
